Parish Church. 1839-1840, enlarged 1845, by Francis Bedford. Yellow brick with tiled roofs. West tower, nave with 2 aisles, chancel.

Tower of 3 stages with moulded brick arched west doorway with steep pointed hood mould terminating in fleur-de-lis, and bearing dates on stops. Clock in second stage, and paired bell chamber lights above. Parapet with angle finials, renewed. Lancet windows in stone coped west aisle walls. 5-bay aisles articulated by buttresses, each bay containing a single lancet window.

Brick corbelled eaves cornice. Chancel a later addition, paired foiled lancet windows to north and south and a tier of 3 lancet lights to the east.

A parish consisting of Cobridge, Sneyd Green, and Abbey Hulton was created out of St John’s parish in 1844. The church is built of yellow brick in simple Gothic style and was designed by Lewis Vulliamy according to the Victoria County History (Vol VIII, p.124) and by L G Hales, a local brass founder, according to Pevsner. The church was enlarged and ‘beautified’ in 1845-6, and the chancel was extended in 1900.
