Born 1881 at Tunstall. Son of the late William Austin.

Educated Wesleyan Public School and Ruskin College, Oxford.

Married 1904, Esther Hannah, daughter of the late William Johnson.

Member of Wolstanton and Burslem Poor Law Guardians, 1919-22 ; 
of Stoke and Wolstanton, 1922-30 ; 
and Stoke City Council 1930-34 ; 

Governor Dr. Hulmes Charities, 1928-33 ; 
Member of the Oxford University Tutorial Movement 1913-31 ; 
North Staffs. Branch Secretary National Federation of Retail Newsagents, Booksellers Association. Miners Representative on Output Committee ; 
Wages Board , Lancashire, Cheshire and N. Staffs , and Educational Advisory Work to Ministry of Labour and raising money for Soldiers during the war.
