1912 Doug Brown's father comes to England from the Gold Coast (now known as Ghana), West Africa.
   
1922 Doug Brown born.
1928 Doug's father Eugene dies.
1936 Doug Brown finishes his education at St. Thomas's Roman Catholic school in Hartshill.
  During the second word war he was trained as a physiotherapist to help in the recovery of injured soldiers. This work and training continued in the newly formed National Health Service.
1950 He married Joyce. 
1960 Became Stoke City football club's team physiotherapist.
1967 In 1967 Doug set up the first "Lads-and-dads" matches on school football pitches, which had previously been closed at weekends.  
For his work with Lads and Dads he was nominated by Footballers Garth Crooks and Robbie Earle for the BBC People's Awards.
  Doug was elected as an independent councillor (by a majority of just one vote) for the Hartshill ward. He later moved across to Labour.
1983-4 appointed to the office of Lord Mayor
1984 Doug helped to set up "Match Mates" as a method of tackling football hooliganism. It was copied widely during the 1980's in cities across the county but fizzled out due to a lack of sponsorship money. 
1990 Received an award from Princess Diana for his work in setting up "Match Mates" 
1997-8 again appointed to the office of Lord Mayor
2000 Doug Brown lost his seat on the council in May of 2000 after being de-selected from his traditional Blurton Ward and fighting for a seat at Trentham.
   
   
   
   
   

Lived at Yoxall Avenue, Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent.

Received an honorary degree from Keele University in recognition of his lifetime's service to young people.
Justice of the Peace
President of the North Staffordshire Chinese Community.
Honorary member of the Grenadier Guards.
Chairman of the board of governors at Sutherland primary school in Blurton (for 22 years).

Hobbies: A keen tennis player.
