Born 1898 at Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Son of late Albert Edward Woodward.
Educated at Cambridge and Cuddesdon, Oxon. 

District Commissioner Longton Division of Stoke-on-Trent Boy Scouts' Association, 1933;
Chairman North Staffs. Anglo-Catholic Congress Regional Committee, 1930;
Assistant Diocesan Missioner, Diocese of Lichfield, 1931. 

Served in R.N. during Great War.
