Meir Tunnel, 284 metres long between portals, forms part of the upgrading of the A50, through a heavily trafficked urban area of Stoke-on-Trent.

The tunnel is self-ventilating. Varying levels of lighting are provided; radio rebroadcast facility is provided for emergency services; three crossover openings are provided in the central wall.


 

 


Above the entrance to the tunnel is the Stoke-on-Trent Arms
inside the Stafford Knot is the hands of the potter an on the right, the fire of industry
on each side of the knot are the tools of the potter
