Nearby on the canal is Price and Kensington Potteries, Steelite, Burgess and Leigh and a few other potteries. Just behind and across the canal is one of H & R Johnson factories. Further up Newcastle Lane (towards Burslem) are some 17thC cottages.

	These warehouses at Longport Wharf (Newcastle Street) are situated alongside the Trent and Mersey Canal They date from the 1840's They were used for transporting raw materials and manufactured goods to and from Tunstall and Burslem. They were owned by The Mersey, Weaver & Ship Canal Co.' This company carried a wide range of cargo from Weston Point, Runcorn to the Potteries which were unloaded here or at their Colonial wharf at Brownhills near Tunstall.
	Photo taken from the canal side just below the bridge on Newcastle Street - it shows how crowded the area was. From the left of the picture we have Price & Kensington frontage, a row of terraced houses, then the Longport Wharf warehouses.
