Postcards of Newcastle - Nelson Place

Nelson Place

Nelson Place - an important junction between Queen Street, King Street, Brunswick Street, Bagnall Street (now Barracks Road), Ironmarket and Marsh Street (now Merrial Street)

This picture (c,1905) shows King Street to the left and Brunswick Street to the right.
The church spire in King Street belongs to to the Congregational Church (built 1859).

The large building in the centre was the Theatre Royal and in front is a statue of Queen Victoria (unveiled 5th November 1903). The statue was later moved to "Station Walks" and around 2002 was moved back to gardens near Nelson Place
