Trivia about transport in Stoke-on-Trent

Canals

The 19th century engineer Thomas Telford built the second Harecastle tunnel for the Trent and Mersey canal.

Police horses

Silver, Jumbo, Nigger, Yank and Jubilee were names of Stoke-on-Trent police horses in the 1960s.

Railway

The rail historian Allan Baker described the Potteries loop Line as "Seven miles 24 chains of undulating, curving and steeply -graded line"

The North Staffordshire Railway Company (The Knotty) brought the assets of the Trent and Mersey Canal Co. which included Rudyard Lake.
