"The proprietor of this establishment conducts a large and very useful business in premises which are situated about equi-distant between the ends of Pall Mall and Piccadilly.

They include a retail shop with a large work-shop attached, the former displaying in the show window a diverse quantity of plumbing, sanitary and other details, taps and water fittings and other brass, copper and leaden goods; and in a conspicuous place we notice the certificate granted to Mr Scarratt by the Plumbers' Company, of London, certifying his efficiency for the execution of all the important details of the work peculiar to that calling, the proper discharge of which is of so much value in the promotion of public health that a few years ago the Plumbers' Company were empowered to take this means of ensuring to householders the security derivable from the employment on such works of one who has a thorough acquaintance with the theory and practice of his craft.

He is also authorised by the local water company for their work.

At the side of the shop stands the workshop which is entered through an archway, by which also the office is approached; the works are fitted with all appliances necessary for the work of plumbing, repairing of drains, and the supply of hot and cold water for baths, or other domestic purposes.

Another branch of trade is painting and decorating, and in each and every department the work executed is completed in the best style; it is, in fact, a first-class business, and is carried on in an excellent position in the best commercial part of the town and in a neighbourhood that is rapidly improving."
