Abraham, Robert Frederick (born 1827 died 1895)

Ceramic decorator. Studied art in Paris and Antwerp and said to have been a follower of Etty: worked for Mr Rose at Coalport and at the Hill Pottery, Burslem, as a decorator. In 1864 he was described as a china manufacturer, Northwood, Hanley. Later he became decorating manager and art director of Copelands, Stoke-on-Trent. Abraham painted portraits and historical subjects in oil, and exhibited at the Royal Academy and British Institution between 1846 and 1853. He died 24 September 1895. His son Robert John Abraham (born c. 1850 died c. 1925) modelled architectural faience for Copelands. Another member of the family, Francis Xavier Abraham (born 1861 died 1933) was a designer at S.
