John King Knight had run the business as the sole proprietor from 1847 to 1853.
In 1853 J K Knight was joined in partnership by Henry Wileman.
Henry Wileman was a wholesale china dealer from London. Sometime in the early 1800's Wileman joined with three other partners and took the Church Gresley Pottery in Derbyshire. After he joined J K Knight, Wileman retained his interest in the Church Gresley Pottery.
1856 John King Knight retired - at that time the business was employing about 220 people.
