Manufacturer of  earthenware and porcelains at the Old Hall Works, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England.

  • The Old Hall Works was operated from 1790 by the Meigh family. 

  • In 1886 the name of the Old Hall Earthenware Co. Ltd. was changed to the Old Hall Porcelain Works Ltd. The Old Hall Castle mark of the previous company was continued, however the ware produced was more everyday utilitarian ware with generic patterns. 

  • Charles Meigh was listed as the Managing Director until at least 1889. In a 1892 directory Taylor Ashworth is listed as Managing Director. 

  • The company had financial difficulties and was closed and was liquidated in 1902

platter in the Landscape pattern 

the registration number 301226 shows that the landscape pattern was registered on the 8th July 1897

Old Hall sometimes marked their ware with the month/year of manufacture - in this instance 4/98 shows that the platter was made in April 1898

this jug was made as part of a bathroom set and there would
have been a corresponding wash basin

the unusual spelling of the company name was to try to give an appearance of an older company - In spite of the 'established 1790' the Old Hall Earthenware Co was started in 1861 and the Old Hall Porcelain Works in 1886.

1790 is the date that the Old Hall Works was first operated by a member of the Meigh family
