Earthenware and Majolica manufacturer at Copeland Street, Stoke, Stoke-on-Trent

  • The partners were Arthur Shorter and James Boulton

  • Shorter and Boulton did a large business in majolica in the USA. Their work is almost always unmarked 

  • In 1891 Arthur Shorter left the running of the business to James Boulton and Shorter managed the company established by his brother-in-law A. J. Wilkinson following the latter’s accidental death. 

  • In 1897 Bolton's son, William, took over the running of the business.

  • In 1900 Arthur Shorter’s younger son John Guy Shorter became manager and by 1905 the company had become Shorter & Son.
