View up Penkhull New Road with the Commercial Inn on the right of the photograph. This photo taken from Club Street. On the 1898 OS map Club Street was named 'Commercial Street', hence the name of the public house. At the end of Commercial Street was the Newcastle-under-Lyme branch canal which flowed through Minton's works further along London Road towards Stoke centre. Penkhull New Road leads to the hill top village of Penkhull. |
