The loop line Tunstall to Goldenhill opened to both passengers and goods on the 1st of October 1874 and the section from Goldenhill to Kidsgrove over a year later on the 15th of November 1875.

This map dates from before the loop line was in existence, Goldenhill and Pitts Hill exist as small groups of houses, the colliery at Goldenhill is marked. Note that Kidsgrove does not exist at all.
