Fenton Park |

Garden in a bowl Originally a location for a bandstand is this area of about 50 square yards, sunken by about 6 feet.
The opening of the park in 1924: "The ceremony at the park had been preceded by a luncheon at the Town Hall, at which several speakers banged the drum for Fenton, the Deputy Mayor enthusing over their "splendid Town Hall, and very able fire brigade". Alluding to the sunken area, he suggested that "the configuration of the land would lend itself to a fine lake. (Laughter). He did not know whether they would wait for the rain to fill it up, or whether they would encourage a few rivulets to do the work for them - (renewed laughter) - but he thought every park should have a sheet of water on which the children could sail their boats"."
