Married 1900, Mary, daughter of late John Hudson.

Councillor, Stoke on-Trent Corporation, 1910-12 ; 
Alderman, Stoke-on-Trent, 1912-34 ; 
Governor Haywood Hospital since 1913 ; Chairman since 1931 ; 
Chairman of Co­operative Union of Great Britain and Ireland for ten years; 
Chairman of Parliamentary Committee of Co-operative Movement for past six years ; 
Member of Central Committee of the International Co-operative Alliance for nine years.

Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, 1925-26.
