Born 1865 at Newcastle-under-Lyme. Son of late Richard Read of Aston Manor and Newcastle.
Educated at the High School, Newcastle, and Owen's College, Manchester.

Married 1888, Mary Hannah, daughter of late Edwin Williamson.

Poor Law Medical Officer, Hanley; 
Medical Officer to Hanley Post Office; 
Chairman Hanley School Board also of Potteries Pupil Teachers Centre; 
North Staffs. Joint Hospital and of Stoke-on-Trent Infectious Hospital; 
Councillor of Hanley Corporation; 
Vice-Chairman of Stoke-on-Trent Health Committee;
For thirty-five years Chairman of Hanley Conservative Association, tec.

Owen's College and Victoria University Football XV's.

Recreations - Fishing and shooting.

Heir - Richard Spencer Read. Born 1889.
