Garth Street, (formerly Bath Street) Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent

more on Garth Street

Sometime around 1950-55 (see note) Bath Street was re-named Garth Street, the evidence of the earlier name is seen in the St. George china factory which is named "Bath Street Works" - see picture on the next page.

Garth Street runs from Upper Hillchurch Street, across Upper Huntbatch Street to Hillcrest Street.

The "Phoenix Chemical Works" of Harrison and Sons (forerunner of Harrison & Mayer) was in Bath Street - they produced glazes and colours.
