Hope Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent
Hope Street joins Lichfield and Stafford Street with Waterloo Road and was therefore part of the thoroughfare from Longton and Fenton, through Hanley to Burslem and Tunstall - the opening of the Potteries Way ring road and pedestrianisation of parts of Hanley means that Hope Street has lost it's importance and that is reflected in its run-down nature.
This imposing building in Hope Street appears in "A descriptive account of The Potteries (illustrated) 1893 advertising and trade journal". Page 28 - the entry for "Mr. T. C. Cooper, Brush Manufacturer 66, Hope Street, Hanley"
Mr. C. Ellam, Practical Optician (Wholesale & Retail) operated from 17, Market Square and had a Branch Establishment at 19 Hope Street, Hanley. From: " A descriptive account of The Potteries (illustrated), 1893 advertising and trade journal. Page 38"
