Heron Cross Streets Past & Present

Heron Cross, situated between Fenton and Blurton in the southern Potteries, developed from a small crossroads settlement into a substantial residential district during the late 19th and 20th centuries.

Its growth was closely linked to nearby pottery industries, coal mining, and the expansion of housing for workers employed across the southern towns of Stoke-on-Trent.

This page lists the present and historic streets of Heron Cross and links to descriptions of the origins of street names, old maps, local developments, and the changing character of the district over time. From early rural roads and terraces to later housing estates and suburban development, the streets of Heron Cross reflect the wider growth of the southern Potteries.

Today, Heron Cross is mainly residential in character, although many streets and surviving features continue to illustrate the district’s industrial connections and steady suburban expansion.
