Meir, in the south-east of Stoke-on-Trent near Longton, developed from a small rural village into an important residential and commercial district during the 20th century.
Historically associated with farming and country estates, the area later expanded through improved road connections, suburban housing development, and its position on major routes linking Stoke-on-Trent with the surrounding region.
This page lists the present and historic streets of Meir and links to descriptions of the origins of street names, old maps, local developments, and the changing character of the district over time. From old village roads and farm lanes to modern estates and commercial developments, the streets of Meir reflect the transformation of the southern Potteries from rural communities to expanding suburban districts.
Today, Meir is a busy residential and commercial area, with many streets still preserving links to the district’s earlier village origins and later suburban growth.
