Bridle Path, Dresden,
Longton Peel
Street
As we have seen most of
the streets in the Dresden Estate were named after prominent Liberals - an
exception was made in the case of Peel Street as in 1846 Prime Minister
Robert Peel
persuaded Parliament to institute the policy of free trade, resulting in a
general abolition of export duties - the so called "Corn
Laws".
The bridle path to the side of the Sir Robert Peel
the path is seen running up from Peel Street to Russell Street
Sir Robert Peel public house
(Peel Street)
on the left is the bridle path
This pub was
named after Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850), British prime minister and
founder of the modern Conservative party.
on the opposite side to the Sir Robert Peel
is the bridle path running down to Wise Street
The line of the bridle path as it
goes from Russell Street, crosses Peel Street and goes on to Wise
Street.
