Patterns can be printed on some ware with paint on a rubber 'stamp'

the machine is known as a 'Murray Curvex' 
This 'mini curvex' is used for back-stamps

the 'back-stamp' is the makers mark which is put on the back of the ware to identify the manufacturer and the pattern name
