Hartshill Cemetery (reflecting the values of Victorian Society)
The 'modern graves' area

The
area of the cemetery in use today (2000)
In
the 1930's the cemetery was extended on the left hand side.
After the 1st World War gravestones were of a uniform size
and limited by the local council regulations, this reflects the
20th C. ideal of a 'classless' society.
Interestingly
the council is now considering allowing memorials
in the more ornate style and size of the Victorian period.
next: is the 2nd
World War memorials
previous: were the 1st Class Roman Catholic graves
