Brick & Tile manufacturer in Stoke, Stoke-on-Trent, England
  • "Herbert Minton began his work with encaustic tiles in the early 19th century, adding it to the china business proper in the 1840s. After his death in 1858 his two partners, nephew Colin Minton Campbell and nephew-in-law Michael Daintry Hollins, entered into a new arrangement which lasted for around a decade before it was dissolved. At this point Campbell took over the china & earthenware side of the business and Hollins took charge of tile production, but the right to produce and sell tiles under various Minton names remained contested by the two parties for many years after". • In 1869, Robert Minton Taylor set up a new tile business, trading as Robert Minton Taylor, until he was bought out by Colin Minton Campbell in 1875. An advert from the 1875 Keates Directory states that the manufacturing takes place at 'Minton's China Works' and that Robert Minton Taylor is the Manager.

  • Campbell continued Taylor's business initially as Minton Brick & Tile Co, but changed the name to Campbell Brick & Tile Co in 1875, after Hollins had taken out a court order to stop Taylor and Campbell using the Minton name for tile production. ref: British Museum.

  • The firm traded as Campbell Tile Co from 1882

Subsequently: The Campbell Tile Co.
