Earthenware & ironstone manufacturer, formerly at the Trent Pottery, Burslem, then at the Eastwood Pottery, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England.
  • Charles Meakin (b 1844) was one of the four Meakin Brothers who were all pottery manufacturers.

  • Charles operated at the Trent Pottery, Peel Street, Burslem with his brother Alfred from around 1865 to 1873 trading as Meakin Bros (& Co) and C & A Meakin

  • Charles also operated at the Trent Pottery under his own name from c.1870 - c.1882.

  • Around 1882 he established the Eastwood Pottery in Lichfield Street, Hanley. The Eastwood Pottery was a well-planned factory with three biscuit and four glost ovens, the whole lay-out being designed to ensure effective labour-saving production.

  • The Eastwood Pottery was absorbed in the larger company of his brothers James and George in 1887 and by 1889 Charles had ceased manufacture under his own name.

James Meakin had four sons - James, George, Charles and Alfred - who all became successful pottery manufacturers.
