Top Staffordshire businessman Stan Clarke has been knighted in today's (Dec 2000) New Year's Honours List.

Sir Stan, honoured for his services to the county, is the chairman of St Modwen Properties which has been behind major developments in Stoke-on-Trent, including Trentham Lakes, Newford Valley, Festival Park and the proposed 400- acre Festival Waters site.
He is also the majority stakeholder in Northern Racing, which has turned Uttoxeter Racecourse into a major track.
Sir Stan, who also owns a number of race horses, was briefly on the board of Stoke City FCduring the move from the Victoria Ground to the Britannia Stadium.
