Under the McKinley tarif act - from 1891 onwards ware for export to the U.S. had to be marked with the country of origin. From 1896 "Ltd" was added to the company name |
Royal Patent Ironstone Arthur J. Wilkinson Late R Alcock Burslem England |
c.1891- 96 "Late R Alcock" - There was no direct connection between Wilkinson and Alcock. Alcock (who were a respected manufacturer of quality ware) had occupied the Central Pottery before Wilkinson and Wilkinson used this as a marketing advantage. |
