1902 | Harrison proposed building tenements to rid the towns of slums and provide housing for the very poor. His proposal was for flats, several stories high around a central courtyard which would serve as a communal garden. |

Thomas William Harrison was a Liberal and was president of Hanley Liberal Association.
Harrison was a member of the Congregational Church and was both president and secretary of the Staffs. Congregational Union. He was also a member of the Congregational national executive.T.W. Harrison married Marianne Green (who was probably a member of the family which controlled the Crown Staffordshire China Co. Ltd. They had at least 3 sons and 1 daughter. According to the 1881 census the family lived at 'The Hollies', Northwood.
