Educated at Tonbridge School, Wadham College, Oxon, and Wells Theological College.Married 1920, Frances Eleanor, daughter of late Frank Annesley Hercules Robinson.

Assistant Chaplain H.M. Prison, Northampton, 1916-19;
Curate of Bradford-on-Avon, 1919-21;
