Leaving the flatware and hollow ware shops the dried ware is taken to the kiln shop for firing

Gas fired kilns are used in place
of the old coal fired bottle kilns.
These gas kilns are more
efficient, flexible and environmentally
friendly - but they are not as interesting or visually
appealing as the coal fired bottle kiln

Pottery which has been fired is known
as biscuit ware
buscuit ware is hard but porous - and needs decorating and glazing
before firing a second time
