"At these Cobridge works - established, it is said, in 1703 - Messrs. Wood & Hawthorne, who succeeded H. Meakin in 1879, manufactured white graniteware for the American markets only. (The pottery was formerly carried on by Edward Pearson, from 1853 until 1873). The mark was the royal arms, with the words IRONSTONE CHINA, WOOD & HAWTHORNE, ENGLAND. Messrs. Wood & Hawthorne continued to 1887 and were succeeded in that year by Messrs. Sant & Vodrey-a partnership which continued until 1893." Jewitt's Ceramic Art of Great Britain 1800-1900 |
