Earthenware manufacturers at the 'Pearl Pottery' in Brook Street, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England.

  • The partners were Frederick Winkle and William Wood. Both had been partners in the previous business of  Wood, Hines and Winkle. Hines retired from the business in September 1885 and Winkle & Wood continued.

  • Between 16th September 1885 and 8th December 1888 Winkle & Wood, at the Pearl Pottery, registered 38 patterns with the Board of Trade Designs in London.

  • In 1888 Winkle and Wood jointly opened the purpose built Colonial Pottery Works in Whieldon Road on the border of Stoke and Fenton.

  • There must have been a significant disagreement between the two because in September 1889 the partnership was dissolved. Frederick Winkle continued on his own at the Colonial Pottery as Winkle & Co and Wood continued at the Pearl Pottery works, Hanley.

Previously:  Wood, Hines and Winkle

Continued as: Winkle & Wood - at the Colonial Pottery Works

Subsequently: Wood and Bennett  (William Wood reverted back to the Pearl Pottery in Hanley)
