  • James Abberley was previously in partnership at the Waterloo Works with Thomas Lowe as Lowe and Abberley - this partnership was dissolved on the 2nd July 1870 and Abberley continued on his own account. 

  • Abberley also operated a mill at Mosty Lee Mill, Longton Road, Stone

  • At the time of the 1871 census on 2nd April 1871 he was employing 171 people - 75 men, 50 boys, 34 women and 12 girls.

  • By October of 1871 Abberley had petitioned for bankruptcy.  

  • Brough & Blackhurst took over the Waterloo Works.
