  • The starting date is unsure, Joseph Goodwin is recorded in the 1856 Kelly directory for Staffordshire. 

  • Joseph Goodwin was made bankrupt in September 1861. A number of auctions were held to sell ware, utensils, engravings &c.

this impressed mark was used with and without the Royal Arms


Elsmore & Forster

this impressed mark within a circular rope shape sometimes used by Elsmore & Forster is the same as that used by Joseph Goodwin (the Elsmore & Forster mark also contains a registration diamond)

 

The operating period for Joseph Goodwin and Elsmore & Forster overlapped and they both produced  Commedia dell'arte presentation jugs. 

Joseph Goodwin's works was located between Watergate Street and George Street in the Clayhills area of Tunstall and Elsmore & Forster's works were called the Clayhills Pottery - the two companies could have shared the same potworks.
