The name Glebe School
gives the hint that this land once belonged to the church and provided
income (as part of rent or a tithe) to the church minister. (known as
'Glebe land')
The existence of Glebe
land is also shown by the old 'Glebe Colliery' (now reclaimed and known
as 'Glebedale Park') the road from City Road to Heron Cross was renamed
from Station Road to Glebedale Road in the early 1950's.
