The Court Shape

The Court Shape was registered on the 9th March 1900 - it is a moulded shape with undulating and sometimes asymmetrical rim, giving an elegant, wave like profile.

On hollow ware handles and spouts are ornately moulded with a flowing contour, bases are scalloped and the surface is lightly ribbed or fluted, emphasising the curves.

The Court Shape was a popular design and used with a number of patterns.

The Court Shape was a popular design introduced by the Upper Hanley Pottery in early 1900. It was used with a number of patterns.

The Grimwade Bros mark shows that Grimwades had an association with the Upper Hanley Pottery at least by 1900 - before they took the over name and works in 1906 when Upper Hanley Pottery got into financial difficulties.
