The Winterton Pottery (Longton) Ltd

Earthenware manufacture in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent - Winterton Pottery manufactured dinner and tea sets and allso produced cellulose decorated art ware. 

  • The factory was situated on the High Street (now Uttoxeter Road), Longton. The pottery was closed in 1941 under the Wartime Concentration Scheme and its production was absorbed by Cartwright & Edwards

  • The works were reopened in 1946. Mr J K Lowndes was the Managing Director.

  • Around 1948-50 Mr Gerald Wood (of Arthur Wood & Son) became a partner. 

  • About this time the business was sold to the Keele Street Pottery Group.

  • Manufacturing appeared to cease at the Winterton Pottery around 1954. In 1962 Winterton were refered to as a 'non-manufacturing unit' of Staffordshire Potteries (Holdings) Ltd - the sucessors to Keele Street Pottery Group.
